The Renaissance Philadelphia Airport Hotel is a combination of contemporary style and classic luxury. Its beautiful 12 story atrium has a wonderful feeling of open space and natural lighting. The Renaissance Philadelphia Hotel recently completed a sophisticated public space renovation. Working in coordination with Columbia Sussex and Marriott Corporation designers, Make Be-Leaves created and installed complex artificial plantscaping in a variety of areas, including:

  • Contemporary, whimsical wood sculpture plantings. The design includes natural yucca poles with natural pods painted to accent the new carpet colors, with a finishing base fill of reindeer moss.
  • Large scale sculptural plantscaping of metal & aluminum balls with base faux grasses for multiple floors in their main atrium planters. Following strict specifications provided by Renaissance owners, Columbia Sussex, the challenge was a solid structural framework and complex artificial plantscape project — creating the exact overall design with a solid structural framework.

Wood Sculptural Plantings

Make Be-Leaves recently worked on the Holiday Inn, Savannah with interior designer, Melanie Alonzo of Carver & Associates – providing custom natural wood and faux floral plantscaping for their existing planters surrounding focal columns.

Melanie wanted a fun, contemporary design – including natural woods and incorporating bright colors to coordinate with the vibrant colored carpet. Working with very tight budget parameters, Make Be-Leaves created the custom faux plantings including natural yucca poles with silk orange proteas attached, and purple reindeer moss as the base cover.

Make Be-Leaves recently shipped an order of custom designed plantings of natural yucca poles with various attached natural accent balls, potted into tall European fiberglass planters, for the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albuquerque, NM.

Sena Zehra from Ocean Properties provided the original photo of bamboo with accent balls as a basic design concept. Make Be-Leaves then worked closely with Sena to produce the final design of natural yucca poles with various size and textured accent balls, and tied raffia.

Another project designed for the Holiday Inn, NC, includes a custom planting of white natural mitsumi wood in a custom-built wood planter. These are great choices for clean, contemporary plantings without the use of greenery. Photos of these plantings were taken at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, prior to shipping.

Make Be-Leaves is currently producing custom, stylized plantings of natural birch woods, painted birch twigs, and specified colored accent balls for the Holiday Inn Express, Charlotte, NC. Each planting is secured into wood base structures, constructed to fit into intricate designed built-in planter at the jobsite.

We find that these new fun, unique, sculptural plantscaping are becoming a huge trend with interior designers in the hospitality and commercial industry.
