Make Be-leaves Brings Patient-Centered Warmth to High-Tech Hospitals

Our mission was to bring this patient-centered design to life through trees, plants and flowers for the new North Las Vegas VA Hospital. This was to complement the vision of its designer, Ralph Bresee, who collaborated with Planetree to enable caregivers to transform the health care experience and organizational culture at the hospital. > MORE

Creating Trees to Bring Dramatics to the Lobby

The hospital lobby had limited floor space, and a ceiling that is several stories high where each floor could look down to the lobby. Ralph wanted a dramatic entrance and he wanted to use Palms. I recommended the Preserved Phoenix Palms because of their dramatic vertical nature, their height and spectacular palm-heads. > MORE

Transforming Hospital Corridors

Ralph’s goal was to transform the institutional atmosphere of the long corridors leading to the patient wings. He did this through designing unique seating arrangements where people could gather along the corridor. Our job was to recommend and build the plants that would complement Ralph’s vision of a park-like atmosphere. > MORE

Bringing the World’s Landscape to Healing Patients

The most fun of all challenges was Ralph’s request to bring combinations of trees, plants and flowers from specific parts of the world to each floor. We, at Make Be-leaves, directed our selections based on a hospital being a place to heal. Some of those we used were Southwest Desert, Mediterranean and East Coast Country. > MORE
